I fly in to Phoenix to pick this up on Saturday.

Specs: 2000 4runner Sport 4x4. A/T, 132K, 3" OME lift with the Heavies front and rear, 265s, E-locker, Millennium Silver with gray interior.

So, here is the plan:

This rig will be the build platform for a full set of new bumpers which will include a front plate style winch bumper and a rear tire carrier. For the next year or so I am sticking with the OME lift. But, I'm going to add a 1" body lift and some 285s in the next couple weeks as well as a set of DOM Sliders.

I am sure that at some point I will add a solid axle, but for now the IFS will do just fine. I'll add some armor under it and work on building some new lower control arms as well.

New home in Colorado. I pulled the floor mats to clean them. It will need new floor mats up front for sure. The DS front is trashed.

sweet...so this means the 88 is sold or traded? (wipesatear) Very nice Scotty. So you had said you didn't have a preference between the AT and the manual trannies. I have been looking all over and the 5spds are very hard to come by when you throw in the other factory options one would like to have.
I just love driving a manual but those AT are a dime a dozen to find in a truck of good condition. What were your deciding points between the 2?

The A/T is just nice to drive. The 5spd will make it feel like it has more power since the OD isn't as tall as the A/T.

If I could have found a 5spd Sport with the Elocker I would have jumped on it.

Tires showed up today.

255/85-16 BFG KM2s. These are a 33.3" tall x 10.3" wide tires. So, basically they are a 34x10.5 roughly.

I am a new Toytec dealer now, so I figured I might as well run what I am going to sell. So, I also went down on Monday and grabbed a 3/4" front spacer for the OME springs, a diff drop, and a 1" body lift.

The body lift is backordered a couple weeks, so the tires will have to wait to be mounted until then. Same with the sliders.

So, I went to the CO 4runner Jambo this weekend. I sponsor this event every year, so I always try to attend.

I took the boys out and we spent a great five days in Buena Vista. We did a lot of fishing and ran Tin Cup Pass all the way over to Taylor Reservoir and then back over Cottonwood Pass. Most of the weekend we were by ourselves just exploring the easier trails in the new 4runner.

I just found that out. I went ahead and installed the 3/4" Toytec spacer yesterday and got the tires mounted up. It definitely leveled the ride evenly.

The only issue I have at this point is that its going to need another alignment done on the front end after the spacer install. I can tell that the tires now lean to the outside slightly. Other than that, I don't think I will have any other clearance issues.

I did see that I have the 881s up front and 890s in the rear. So, no clue why Man-a-fre considers this to be their HD kit. :shaking:

But, I can't complain about the ride quality at all, and it does in fact clear the tires.

On a side note, are these Tundra calipers? They have been ground down A LOT to clear the wheels. And, the 4runner stops amazingly well even with the camper behind it, so I am thinking these are the Tundra calipers.

So, I had purchased some 58" sliders to use for the 4runner. One small problem. They just aren't long enough. The next larger sizes is the 67" ones. They were too long, so I just decided to build some of my own from scratch. So, I did some measuring and honestly a 62" slider is ideal.

So, I cut up some tubing for the install. The main square tube is 2"x2" .188 wall as are the legs. The outer tube is 1.75" .120 wall DOM.

I added some diamond shaped (superman) 1/4" frame plates to spread the load of the sliders on the frame and to keep the frame from denting when getting hit hard. Make sure you round the edges before welding.

I painted them with some Rustoleum Hammered tone silver.

So, today I got my ass handed to me doing the gears on the 4runner.

I really despise the front clam shell design and what a PITA it is to remove them. I got to the shop at 7:30 this morning and left at 9:30pm. Worked pretty much the entire time tearing things down and building the drop outs. I also replaced a CV boot and installed the diff drop.

I didn't bother taking pics of the clam shell front. But, here are the pics pf the Elocker 3rd when I finished it. Pattern is $$$!

Well, I really haven't updated this thread in a while. Mainly because I haven't done anything else to the 4runner other than adding a fold and tumble 3rd row seat to it. I now have four kids, and needed the extra seat for my wheeling and camping excursions.

On a side note, I really love the 5.29s that are now in it. They definitely improve the top end power and eliminated the constant searching from OD to 3rd in the auto tranny. Even towing the pop-up around it will simply hold OD on the hwy at 75mph without issues. I am also getting 18.5-19mpg on the hwy with the 5.29s. So, even with the 33.5" KM2, the mileage is still good on the hwy. Around town has dropped to around 16mpg, but even that is livable with a now modified rig.

I hope to start on the front bumper and rear tire carrier/bumper in the near future in hopes that I can be in full production on them by summer.

Anyway, here is a pic of the 3rd row seats:

Installed:

FWIW, I got the seat from JCwhitney with a 20% off coupon off the internet and Free Shipping. $248 shipped to my shop.

Scotty, I am really interested in the 3rd row seat idea. How did you figure out seatbelts? My kids are still young and require shoulder belts with their booster seats. I like the idea of the LittlePassengerSeats.com seats but at nearly $1000, the cost is just too much.

I just used two lap belts in the rear. You could try to install some sort of rollbar with mounts for a three point belt though. The install is very easy for the seat. Just drill holes and then use very large fender washers under the belts. The seat itself comes with all the hardware and brackets as well as under floor mounts.

What is your comfort level with having your kids in the back with just lap belts?

IMO, I think that a bunch of the "safety" laws are absurd and stupid. I mean, I rode around my entire life in just lap belts when I was a kid. All of the 1st gen 4runners only have lap belts as well. So, its not that much different. So, if your car never came with shoulder belts, they cannot make you add them anyway.

I don't plan on wheeling hard with them back there anyway. I mainly add it because we just had our 4th. My others are 12, 10, and 7. When I wheel it, the newborn will be back in camp with momma, so the others can ride in the front two rows, and not the back.

So, I have all this hard core tech in my thread.

Why not add some more.

So, I ordered this rack off of Ebay for a whopping $45 shipped on the "Best Offer" method. FWIW, the rack is pretty damn strong. The mounting hardware is worthless though. So, I modified the mounting hardware to work, and got it bolted on.

Thanks Jay. FWIW, I do not like roof racks. I think it raises the center of gravity too much. But, I need the extra carrying capacity when the whole family is in the 4runner. I plan on buying another one in the spring and I will use both of them on the pop-up trailer for gear and stuff on it.

So, the solid axle is inevitable. The coilovers are ordered. Going with 14" Fox 2.0" remote res. I had them valved at 70/70 compression/rebound. Should have them in the next few weeks.

The Diamond axle is also ordered. Pass drop with a LC 9.5" center section. 64" WMS-WMS. I'll be running IFS hubs with solid axle spindles and my 4runner Sport brakes on the axle.

I also got my link brackets from Ballistic today too.

You guys should get a kick out of this.

So, my buddy John sold his ultra clean first gen 4runner a few weeks ago. Since then he has been trying to find a decent 3rd gen for a family wheeler.

Well, he called me last night and ended up just buying mine. I figured mine was worth way more in one piece and it was pointless to start from scratch with it and ditch all of the decent suspension upgrades, gears, tires, etc on it. So, I sold it to him last night.

Then this morning he sent me a link for a rig down in Colorado Springs. Its a 00' SR5 4runner 4x2. Pretty much the exact package I already had minus the sport hood, Elocker, and fender flares. But, its midnight black just like my old 1st gen. So, we drove down to take a look. It needs a massive cleaning inside and a good polish/buff outside, but I grabbed it for a good price. Its straight as hell, no accidents, and Its got only 142K on it (only 3000 more than the silver one). :grinpimp:

This deal puts me way ahead on building the new one instead. Also, because the new one doesn't have fender flares and I no longer mind cutting, its getting 37s now right off the bat.

I also grabbed two 9.5" 3rd members on the way home and scored a 4x4 A/T transmission for $250 including shifter, ECU, center console plastic, and everything else I need to put it in. This will save me a few $$$ on the prerunner adapter.

I got some pics I will post up soon of it.

Its amazing how much can change in 24hrs. :shaking: :flipoff2:
