Posted - 09/11/2006 : 12:49:47 PM I thought that since this site is fairly new that I would post up one of my more recent projects. These are a set of Tacoma Half doors. See the process and final product of these doors!
 ----------
I don't have any real before pics but they were stock Tacoma doors so use your imagination

Posted - 03/26/2007 : 11:31:15 AM Thanks. I'm trying to make time to start on the softdoor part of them so I don't get soaking wet driving down I-35 when a thunderstorm hits
I don't have enough time to mass produce these but I think it would be cool to see these come up in fiberglass.
I'm sure if you were to be better at welding sheetmetal than I am and had more tools/methods for doing things it would be quicker. |

Posted - 11/08/2006 : 10:03:08 PM Well I hope the Herculiner comes off with paint stripper. After only about a month and a half the driver door is extremely faded because of the way I park. I just ordered some military black paint and I will paint the whole truck so as long as the weather works out for me. |

Thanks man. The ovly reason I used the Rhino liner was because I don't have access to a paint booth or paint equipment. I would love to have the whole truck repainted to include the halfddoors so it will all match.
I'm torn though. I love the look of a really clean(no dents/scratches) truck but its damn near impossible to keep it that way. If the Herculiner lasts on the doors I may do the whole truck. |

Posted - 09/12/2006 : 08:53:17 AM Cool, thanks for the info. The hinge method that you used is the one I was thinking of useing. I feel the same way you do about the pin method, especially when you put the "heavier" full doors back on. |

Posted - 09/12/2006 : 08:06:57 AM The handles I got from a tool box place her locally.(The Perry Co.) You can get them from grainger or theres a bunch of places on the net I looked at. As far as the mechanism. I used a rod(can't remember the dia.)just cold roll peice from TSC. Its kinda hard to explain how it hooks to the Toy latch but its pretty self explanatory when you look at it. The end that goes to the toolbox latch is just bent in a U shape and hooked on the latch mechanism so that it pulls in the right direction.(top or bottom depending on the side.
I'll try to get some pics of that soon. I'm horrible at taking pics while I'm working so I always miss kinda important stuff.
As far as the hinges. I used this method and I just carry a ratcheting wrench in the truck for removal.

Theres a pin method out there but I was worried about messing up the hinges like the ones on my Suburban where the door drops everytime you open it.

Posted - 09/12/2006 : 07:05:33 AM Shawn, could you give any info and or pics on where you bought the door handles you used and also the mechanism you built/used to make them work the latch? Also, did you make the hinges any type of quick release (I've seen several types used, wondered if one was better than another)? |

Posted - 09/11/2006 : 6:08:58 PM I havt really been wheeling since I got them done but I can amagine that the herculiner wont feel real nice. I plan on making some pleather pads for that area but I havnt gotten around to it. |

No I still don't have the Chevys on there but I would love too. I can't ever find the springs very cheap here. There are no pick ur own parts places here locally. |

Posted - 09/11/2006 : 12:56:00 PM I dig the cup holder! How does the arm feel after a day of wheeling with the Herculiner rubbing on it??? I did the same thing with a set of doors on my old EB. It got pretty annoying with the Herculiner on it. I dig the doors though. I will be doing something similar to mine pretty soon. |

Posted - 09/11/2006 : 12:54:12 PM Looks real nice, Shawn, I especially like the Dora hat, that your wheelin' hat? LOL!
On a side note, are you running 63" Chevy's in the rear? |
